Dct-6416
I'm on Cox East and have 2 DCT6416's. They're both my boxes that I bought on e-bay - Cox dicked me over hard, so I'm oh so not willing to play by their rules anymore. I have the rented box from Cox as well (for the time being)
I'm waiting for my USBJTAG to come in.
In the meantime I've been reading the forums and trying to prep for when the unit arrives.
One of the (e-bay) boxes works and I get local channels, but I haven't played around with it much. The other did not, meaning it showed the empty guide and 'please wait/not authorized to view'. I did the factory reset on the box that was not authorized and downloaded the software from the headend. It now shows '0' on the LED and a black screen, which is what I expected. This is going to be my test platform that I don't care if I brick or break it.
TBH I like the Passport Echo better than the SW that's on the boxes, which is why i dl'd the sw.
My 1st question is:
On the box that works, should I risk resetting it and downloading the sw from the headend? Seeing as it presently works, it should still work after the reset and s/w dl, right?
2nd: to copy the NVRAM from the rented box, i need to attach the USBJTAG to it, correct? I'm also assuming that I should copy down as much info as possible about the box (settings, addresses, etc etc) so when I turn it in i'll have something that's actually in the MSO's system, right?
Any other thoughts/suggestions/warnings before I dive in?
tia!

Yep - all 3 boxes are DCT-6416 Phase III
The cox box and one of my boxes are identical - same DCT-6416/2300 and date of MFG stamped on the PCB. The other is a little older, but otherwise identical.
I found a port identical to that of the pic in the 6412 section here, it doesn't have solder holes, just like the pic - it has the solder beads.
In fact the 6416's PCB board says DCT-6412, and from what I've gleaned so far they are identical except for the 160gb drive instead of the 120gb.
Any suggestion for getting the data out of the cox box? i don't want to solder to the board (ie leave a trace that i've played with it). I could tape / weight the header in place so that i don't have to solder. i know this can lead to connection issues, but as of present i don't have any other solution.

If you do not want to solder on the board, you need to make one connector use the spring pins. That can be found on eBay. I might make some latter for people to buy. But not in short plan.gixxer_j_97 wrote:Yep - all 3 boxes are DCT-6416 Phase III

Try this.

You need to make a board to solder those pins.

I am sorry that I cannot work on this project for a while. The fake UID on DCT64XX was initially looked at but then stopped for various reason. This project will be resumed latter.
Several factors leads some technical difficulties.
1. The checksum of platform and NVRAM combined together.
2. Unreliable programing on MIPS64 yet.
I certainly understand the importance of this project but the whole USB JTAG project was messed up by the cloner. The big percentage of time now is to fight the cloner in different way. I have at least lost half year of time because of the cloner. Many other project also slowed down. DCT6412 fake UID is one of the TODO list. This project is not easy and probably needs about one month of work.
