Trying to make a DPC3000 work on Charter Cable

Post by TiOeM »

I recently bought a DPC3000 to use instead of Charter Cable's modem (DPC3008), the DPC3000 has this UBFI:

Current Software Revision: dpc3000-v303r2391-100729aCMCST
Firmware Name: dpc3000-v303r2391-100729aCMCST.bin
Firmware Build Time: 20100729151242

When I switched from Charter Cable's modem (DPC3008) to my modem (DPC3000) the modem stopped working after about 30 minutes and never resolved itself after that. The web UI at http://192.168.100.1 states that:

Cable Modem Status: DS_TOPOLOGY_RESOLUTION_IN_PROGRESS

My hypothesis is that Charter cable doesn't like the Comcast firmware in the modem and is failing to "upgrade" the firmware or is rejecting the firmware all together...

I want to use the modem I bought so want to try to flash to a compatible firmware to see if this resolves the issue.

I have a few questions as result. Will a UBFI for a DPC3008 be compatible with a DPC3000? If so, Can anyone provide a firmware dump of the DPC3008? Here's what the UBFI from Charter Cable's modem has:

Bootloader Revision: 2.3.1_R3
Current Software Revision: d3000-v302r125554-120725a
Firmware Name: d3000-v302r125554-120725a.bin
Firmware Build Time: Jul 26 12:05:30 2012

Or how can I extract the UBFI by myself from that modem? I read that a few here already has a backup of the DPC 3008, but I have not found the SPI pinouts to back it up myself.

No, you cannot convert a DPC3008 to a DPC3000. They're entirely different architecture.

DPC3008 is broadcom, DPC3000 is Puma5.

Ok thanks for letting me know, teddyalmonds, but does anyone have another UBFI for the DPC3000 I can try out? Hopefully a UBFI that's Charter cable doesn't reject.
