Ability to change mac address using usbjtagnt

Post by Kristova »

Was asked by usbbdm, via email, to post this topic on the forum for further discussion, so here goes.

A question...do you know of any way to change the mac address of a receiver, similar to the CNX Nano2, using the usbjtagnt?

Or is this, as i suspect, purely a hardware feature that cannot be changed?

Thank you.

In theory it is possible. The Mac is stored in EEPROM.
USB JTAG NT can read and write EEPROM.
It is a matter to find the certain address that stores the Mac address. I have COPIED the EEPROM from Nano Premium to Nano 2 and it picked up the public server when it worked quite a while ago.

Hello usbbdm, thanks for your quick reply.

I have a couple of dumps from similar machines that I will load up into usbjtagnt software and save into the separate divisions so I can look at the eeprom with ultraedit. Hopefully there will be something readable in there.

I would be pleasantly surprised if it was that easy :)

Regards.

Yes. Mac address is readable. You can try to change it manually. If there is no checksum then it will be quite easy.
