Solderless example with clamp.

Post by usbbdm »

This weekend I went to the dollar store and bought the Quick Action Clamp and made my hand free for JTAG port. Here are some pictures.
Here is what you need to buy.

And this is after installation. (RTP300)

Close look.

I hope everyone will come up with some ideas so you do not have to solder pin headers to the board. Some board has the pads filled with solder (Like RTP300) and it is very hard to clean the solder. This JTAG setup can be used many many times.
Of course you need something like this.

I found use rubber band works better than the clamp. On RTP300 I need 3 rubber band and make great connection.

For pad cleaning....

When removing solider from pads I prefer solider wick over solider suckers/Vacumme types. Very easy.
I do think that the clamp is an excellent idea positive contact.

On the same RTP300 I used the rubber band (3 of them) and works better as I do not worry the weight of the clamp.

Superior suggestion...

If I had the following 3 options...
1)Prep and solider to existing pads.
2)Clamp in place as pictured above.
3)Rubber bands

I would have no choice, but to go with (3) rubber bands;
Free
Quick
Simple
Effective

Although your first solution worked, you continued to innovate. That tenacity is also reflected in your USBJTAG devices, and why I will be purchasing from you.
Just one mans observation/statement.

Cost you about 60 bucks on ebay, with the adapters :)

Not quite as stable as I'd like, but it's convenient and fairly easy to get a repeatable connection. The adapters are generally single boards, I added a second to reduce pin deflection. Made it much nicer to work with.
