SB6120 nightmare
I have tried everything possible to detect my SB6120 with USBJTAG NT but i haven't been able to. I've tried using a test clip, soldering wires directly to SPI chip and also tried powering chip via a 3.3v external power but not success. I keep getting "unknown flash type ff,ff,ff" and I ran out of options. I also made sure to touch the psi pad on back and noticed all lights go off which means that I'm doing the right thing. I followed usbjtag instructions for SB6120 and I've tried my soldering skills on three sb6120 and not luck. However, I noticed that all three sb6120 have the same chip, FL064PIF, which makes me believe that this chip might be locked or protected against read/write attempts.
I also tried on four different computers and still no success. I have a sb5100 and the usbjtag nt detects it without no problem but this sb6120 beast, as I like to call it, doesn't cooperate.
Please help!

There is NO NEED to power SB6120 Externaly to detect. CHECK YOUR WIREING. FF,FF,FF is an indication Wireing is NOT CORRECT.............erosdss wrote:I have tried everything possible to detect my SB6120 with USBJTAG NT but i haven't been able to. I also checked for short with a multimeter from the chip all the way to the NT header. No luck. ff,ff,ff keeps coming up. i'm using windows 7, 32bit with USB JTAG NT 0.60. In addition, I also opened the application first, then connected the USB then power up the modem.

If you get FF,FF,FF The wireing is wrong or not making contact. unless you killed your tool.erosdss wrote:CAPONE, see for yourself:

Capone, is the wiring wrong based on my pics?
If i'm able to detect the sb5100 is it possible that the usbjtag nt is able to detect sb5100 but not the sb6120? although, I have to say that the sb5100 is getting harder to detect also. It could be that I might of killed the tool but if I did, would the computer still recognize it?

If you use the 14 pin jumper then red will be pin 1. You have the all the odd and even number swapped I think.usbbdm wrote:Can you double check? Looks like you have connected wrong pins. You should use a meter to check the ground. Looks like you have connected all ground (which is pin 2,4,6,8) to the target.

The SB5100's and Sb5101's use only the first 10 pins of jtag, so if you can detect them then you know the first 10 pins are good. I agree with USBBDM that it looks like you may have the odd and even pins reversed. At this point I still believe its a connection problem and not a DEAD TOOL Problem.erosdss wrote:Capone, is the wiring wrong based on my pics?

I'll double check the connections right now but i did use the one you have listed on the left side on the site.
usbbdm: by looking at the picture below, am i correct assuming that pin 1 on the usbjtag nt is the one located on the bottom far left column?

and here's a novice question: how do i check for ground on the pins with a multimeter? don't get me wrong, i know how to use the muli-meter but i'm not sure how to specifically check for ground since I thought pin 2 on the jtag was already carrying ground to the chip (pin 10).

All right folks. I detected the modem with blackc**. I'm going to play a little harder with usbjtag nt to make sure i didn't messed it up. i noticed all the lights turns on (dimmed) when i plug it in and they remain on which is an indication that i might of bricked the modem. now i need to de-bricked?

You might be right. I never use the connector that way. I always use the 14 pin connector on one side.erosdss wrote:I'll double check the connections right now but i did use the one you have listed on the left side on the site.
